Could the Anti Cigarette Law in Britain Drive Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Net?

[ English ]

An abundance has been talked in the papers just a while ago concerning the bingo industry struggling as a result of the smoking ban in Britain. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for massive tax cuts to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. But will the online adaptation of this traditional game provide a salvation, or might it in no way compare to its bricks and mortar kin?

Bingo is an established game normally played by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game of late had undergone a recent resurgence in popularity with younger members of society opting to visit the bingo parlours in place of the bars on a weekend. This is all about to be reversed with the introduction of the anti cigarette law around UK.

No longer will gamblers be able to puff on cigarettes while marking numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 all public locations will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favorite areas where players enjoy smoking.

The results of the anti cigarette law can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already prohibited in the bingo parlors. Players have plunged and the business is literally fighting for its life. But where did the players go? Surely they haven’t abandoned this enduring game?

The answer is on the web. People realize that they can play bingo from their computer at the same time enjoying a drink and cigarette and still enjoy massive prizes. This is a recent development and has happened almost perfectly with the anti cigarette law.

Of course betting on on the net is unlikely to replace the communal aspect of going down to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of people the governing edicts have left a lot of bingo enthusiasts with no choice.
