Could the Anti Cigarette Law in Britain Drive Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Internet?

Much has been written in the press just a while ago about the bingo industry struggling because of the anti smoking law in England. Things have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested huge aid to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. But can the online variation of this classic game provide a lifeline, or might it not compare to its bricks and mortar kin?

Bingo is an ancient game normally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. In any case the game of late had experienced a recent increase in popularity with younger people opting to hit the bingo halls rather than the discos on a Friday night. This is all about to change with the legislating of the anti smoking law around United Kingdom.

No more will players be permitted to smoke at the same time marking numbers. From the summer of ‘07 every public area will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most favorite locations where people like to puff on cigarettes.

The results of the anti smoking law can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already not permitted in the bingo halls. Profits have plunged and the business is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where did the players go? Surely they haven’t given up on this established game?

The answer is on the internet. Gamblers realize that they can play bingo from their computer at the same time enjoying a cocktail and cig and in the end, have a chance at big prizes. This is a recent anomaly and has happened just about perfectly with the anti smoking law.

Of course betting on on the internet is unlikely to replace the communal aspect of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a group of people the law has left a number of bingo enthusiasts with little option.
